Green Romance of the Redwoods..

I envy birds because they can touch the sky whenever they want .  They have wings , they can fly , they can kiss the sky ! But, after seeing many tallest trees of the world , I know now  – to feel free, to kiss the sky , you do not need wings all the time ; you just have to be taller , stronger , wiser and sky has no choice but to notice you !

I am back after a 3 day long blog hiatus !

In last three days , we hiked like ..well, like no one we know !

We were exploring Redwood forests – where lush green branches of the Redwoods romance with the sky , where forest is on an elevated surface and somewhere it goes down to meet the ocean , where many endangered species ( like Banana slugs) live happily ,far from the man-made world , where no calculations work much !

This was one of the toughest hikes I did in my life time. But, now that I look back, I feel so happy about the whole experience . I am sure I will be there , walking on a longer trail , on next weekend too !

The trails in the Redwoods park were narrow  ; at some places, you really have to focus on balancing because of the inclined trails. The loops have crazy elevation changes and that could be devastating for people who do not exercise – you can go out of breath pretty easily!

If you haven’t seen Redwoods and if you think you are pretty big ( heart , wealth or ego wise! 😉 ) then you must visit one !

You will notice you are just 0.000X % of  its height and know that you cannot be bigger than many great things nature made !

You can also make a small room inside one Redwood tree. My husband just found one and disappeared into it ; you can see his hand in the above  picture!

Before going there , I read the quote by John Steinbeck and I agree with every line now –  “The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. No one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. The feeling they produce is not transferable. From them comes silence and awe. It’s not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time.”

After hours long hike , I was not even tired , thanks to the beauty of Redwoods and green nature! I even attended a late night birthday party straight after hiking !

Have you noticed that’s the magic of Nature? – your mind can never get tired , can never feel boredom or stress , no matter how many miles you walked , no matter how long you walked in the wildness of the nature !

  1. Happy hiking Archita so now you are back? Marvelous pictures. Yes, nature is a great stress killer. How I would love to wander in the forest. Write more about your trip, I would love to read it in details.

    1. Thanks a lot, Indira, for your words. 🙂 Yes, back to hiking, even though cautious at every step I take , so that I do not fall again and spend a year bed ridden :)..

I will write more ; I tried expressing my excitement in words..but, right now, I am in awe of that natural beauty and words could not justify that feeling..:(..But, I will write more..:)

    1. Thank you very much , Itty, for the visit and the comment.:) I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. It is a bit difficult to hike uphill to these trees ; but I am sure , one day, you’ll hug one tree right here. 🙂

  2. It looks beautiful! I’d love to hike there! Though I’d probably qualify as that out of shape hiker lately 😉 We used to hike all the time, I live right between the Catskills and Adirondacks but, as the kids got older we seemed to not have the time to do it anymore.

    1. You live so close to the beautiful mountains, river . That’s one scenic place. 🙂 I could not walk properly for more than a year; so , now, I push myself harder to these hikes ; that’s how I feel almost “normal”. 😀
There are many redwood parks pretty close here, but I get scared of “rattlesnake” pics people post on yelp/TripAdvisor reviews :D. Thank you very much, C.K , for the visit and the comment.:)

      1. I never thought of rattlesnakes lol but I’m not afraid of snakes at all so pics of them in places I want to go wouldn’t scare me. Pictures of spiders there, now THAT would do it!

I do live close to very beautiful places, it’s quite beautiful where I am even 🙂 But, everywhere has it’s own beautiful and I need to get to california for the ocean and the trees! I want to stand next to a giant redwood, I bet I’d look like an ant 🙂

I’m glad you can hike again, Archita! Don’t push too hard though!

So what do you think?
