I Will Meet You Yet Again

A Journey Called Life Copyrighted

I know nothing
but that this life
will walk along with me.

When the body perishes
all perishes
but the threads of memory
are woven of enduring atoms
I will pick these particles
weave the threads
and I will meet you yet again.

– Amrita Pritam, I Will Meet You Yet Again( Translated by Nirupama Dutt)

Back in 2008, when I was trying to create a blog of my own and searching for a name, I remembered my most favorite lines in one of Amrita Pritam’s poems:

“I know nothing
but that this life
will walk along with me”

It was the inspiration behind the blog name here too ” A Journey Called Life.”

Amrita Pritam was an Indian writer and a poet, she wrote in two languages, Punjabi and Hindi and published 28 novels and many poetry anthologies. She was the most prominent woman writer of 20th Century India.  Her words portrayed the bitterness of the partition in 1947, the harsh truths of life of women in India that time. What I loved the most was the fact that she was brave enough to stand strong and express her opinions, even during a time when the country was going through so many transitions.

I have loved many of her poems, in all three languages.  But this poem “I Will Meet You Yet Again”, especially the first and last parts are my most favorites; they are the third entry to my Tailpiece collection.

I will meet you yet again
How and where
I know not
Perhaps I will become a
figment of your imagination
and maybe spreading myself
in a mysterious line
on your canvas
I will keep gazing at you.

I have a created a new Category on my blog: “Tailpiece”. Time to time I am going to add favorite poems, quotes and lines from known and unknown books here.
