What’s typical anymore

Daily writing prompt
Was today typical?

It was typical in the sense that the Sun rose around 5: 30 AM IST, its usual time everyday. I have no idea what dimension of typical would we be in, if it pulls a sick leave on us.

Typical in the sense that the world has been falling apart, was gradually at first, as subtle as the earth rotating around the sun, so we didn’t notice, but right now it has been spiraling down at lightening speed.

What, you seem surprised! Okay, relax, take a deep breath, drink some water and and take that reality check staring you in the face.

Let’s start with the high and mighty global north, what do we have there? Boiling temperatures, probably a reflection of the crossfire between Ukraine and Russia, economic inequity, refugee crises, ‘X’tinction of the bird, and an erased Foreign Minister in China( I refuse to acknowledge China as a Global South country). Yes you heard that right. Although, it could be that he chose to abandon all hope and ran away with his Mistress( let’s hope both are doing okay).

Then, closer home, that is the always eventful Global South, we have continuing issues passed down by our more priveleged Northern counterparts who have been historically bullying us first into subservience, then into mock subjugation. Most of us gained independence after much bloodshed and losses, the independence also cost us friendly neighborhoods, a price almost all the Global south countries are still paying. But we have also grown ingenious enough to bake our own problems, instead of learning from our violent past, we are still hungry for more violence. Instead of building a better future for the young ones we are birthing exponentially, we are busy hunting minorities. All this when we are twice at risk of climate changes.

Amidst all of this, here I am comfortably seated in my living room, as if today was a typical day, when the only thing typical is our nihilistic attitudes towards all that’s wrong in the world, while the North and the South compete in the ‘ Who is nuked first’ challenge
