Successfully navigating the low mood/low energy days

Daily writing prompt
What things give you energy?

Winter is approaching, and with it, some of us will be plunged into the depths of hell from time to time.

This DIY self energizing routine is for then, keep it somewhere you can see:

It essentially comprises of simple, doable things you can incorporate in your schedule, stuff like- spending time in the morning and evening sun, moving throughout the day, smelling something nice, spending time doing what you love, and maintaining the power of a community of like-minded people:

  • Morning and evening sun exposure: Spend some time in the morning and evening sun to benefit from its health-promoting effects. Sunlight helps build vitamin D, which is essential for a healthy nervous system. If you live in a place without daylight during winter months, consider using artificial light therapy to mimic the effects of sunlight on your mood and energy levels1.
  • Movement throughout the day: Incorporate regular physical activity into your daily routine. This can include walking, jogging, yoga, or any other form of exercise that you like to do. You can mix it up if it gets boring. Moving your body not only helps maintain physical health but also has a positive impact on your mental well-being.
  • Smell therapy: Smell retraining therapy can be a beneficial practice for improving your sense of smell and overall well-being. Start by picking from different scents, such as rose (floral), lemon (fruity), cloves (spicy), and eucalyptus (resinous). Take sniffs of each scent for 10 to 20 seconds at least once or twice a day, focusing on the task at hand. My favorite is a combination of citrus and spicy. Please only incorporate it after consulting a trusted medical practitioner and/or getting any allergy tests done. It works for me, may not for you.
  • Spending time doing what you love: Engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. This can include hobbies, creative pursuits, or simply spending time with loved ones. Taking time for yourself and doing things that you enjoy is an essential part of self-care3.
  • Power of community of like-minded people: Surround yourself with a community of like-minded individuals who share your interests and values. This can be a support group, a club, or an online community. Connecting with others who understand and support you can have a positive impact on your mental and emotional well-being
