Clutter: A short poem

Bloganuary writing prompt
Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

I am a hoarder of things, keeper of keepsake,

A trinket, a giftbox, a smattering of lace.

Put together in a perfect disarray.

Is it everything that I need to bring me joy?

I am a collector of stuff I know not to use,

I like that only I have the power to peruse.

A dreamed Iliad, an imagined Odyssey.

Like a thirsty ruler with a fetish for Troy

‘What does it mean to me?’ they ask.

Brows arched and a touch of concern,

‘They’re like wrinkles & fine lines on my soul,’ I say

An irreplaceable part of me which I can’t ever destroy.
