India celebrated its 75th Republic Day yesterday. We fought the British tooth and nail for our independence for over 200 years and we formally won it in August of 1947, 15th of August to be precise. Our Constitution was formalized three years later on the 26th of January, 1950.
Our Republic Day marks the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, completing the country’s transition towards becoming a sovereign republic. This day symbolizes the culmination of India’s struggle for independence and the establishment of a democratic framework that values justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

I asked ChatGPT to imagine India’s Constitution as a septuagenarian woman, wise-eyed and witty with some advice for us and the world at large, and this is what I got: ”Darlings, remember, just like a well-worn saree, democracy is best when it weaves together different threads gracefully. Embrace diversity, stitch together unity, and for goodness sake, never let the fabric of justice unravel. After all, age has taught me that a nation is as strong as the stitches that bind its people!”
That’s some sound advice, isn’t it?
