AI: Friend or Foe?

I have been using the AI based language & image models for some time now. I use Chat-GPT ( both 3.5 and 4) for a range of use cases in both work as well as personal spheres. For writing my book, I have been using it as a sounding board ( a very eager to help one at that) whenever I get stuck.

Few years back I never imagined having a 24*7 personal companion who could be your personal cheerleader and critique at once, even when you are being vague with your prompts.

Don’t get me wrong, I do not think AI can emulate human relationships, let alone replace. The human experience remains safely ensconced from such technological revolutions, but continues to evolve as a result of it.

Before its genesis, I was writing alright, but often drew a blank and would lose interest in writing in that moment. But now I usually do a little bit of back and forth with either GPT or Poe, get some writing exercises to bounce back into my writing.

While the integration of AI into my creative process has largely been helpful, I cannot overlook the broader implications it carries, particularly regarding its impact on jobs. As AI continues to advance, concerns about automation and potential job displacement rightfully emerge. And most importantly, what happens if and when it goes rogue.

We are aware of the immense backlash Google recently received when its Gemini tried to over correct for existing racial biases in generative AI.

All of this in the backdrop of the growing demand of AI across industries only deepens the concerns around building solutions near such fault lines.

While AI can serve as a wellspring of inspiration, helping one automate repetitive tasks and focus more on strategic undertakings, it can also help you  analyze vast amounts of data and provide valuable insights on consumer needs, it’s crucial to recognize that while AI can streamline tasks and offer valuable assistance, it cannot replicate the depth of human creativity, empathy, and intuition.

Therefore, rather than viewing AI as a replacement for human labor, we should embrace it as a tool to augment our capabilities and amplify our potential.
