My nickname (fondly called ‘Daak-Naam’ in Bangla) comes from a song my parents loved about a bumble bee and its vagrant ways—a fitting choice given my vagabondish tendencies since I learned to walk.
The song is Rabindra Sangeet, created by Rabindranath Tagore, titled ‘Oli Bar Bar Phire Jaaye.’ Here’s a link to one of its oldest renditions.
Perhaps because I share my Daak Naam with the bees, I have often been chased by them and even stung once. But I’ve never shied away. After all, I owe my curiousity to them.
