In praise of Nordic Thrillers

Given that it’s my favorite season around, I recently watched The Chestnut Man on Netflix, and as someone who hasn’t explored many Nordic shows, I was absolutely blown away by this one.

It’s an adaptation of the novel by the same name, and the plot centers around the gruesome murders of mothers in Copenhagen, with the killer leaving no clues behind—only a few eerie chestnut figurines as a calling card.

The killings begin in the wake of the abduction and possible murder of the Danish Social Affairs Minister Rosa Hartung’s 12-year-old daughter, Kristine.

Normally, I pride myself on reading the books before watching their screen adaptations, so I was appalled by my oversight this time.

But the show, shrouded in noir and mystery, more than made up for it. The cinematography, costumes, and plot were dripping with intrigue.

I usually have a knack for guessing the murderer in whodunits, but this one kept me guessing until the very end.

And can we please talk about the leading pair? Both the investigators were so good looking and the tension between them was just the perfect accessory to this thriller ( sorry for being shallow, just saying it as it is).
