Strategies to cope with negative feelings- Tried & Tested

Daily writing prompt
What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

These are some of self-tested strategies that have worked well for me. Please note, these worked for me but may or may not work efficiently for you as every person is unique and therefore, I humbly urge you to experiment and adapt accordingly.

  1. Exercise- Well, this is something that is easy to write about but daunting to practice when you’re feeling down in the dumps. But once, you take that extra step, it flows smoothly from there. But the question remains, how to get there?
    • This is where my experiments may help. So, in my experience, creating a pre schedule for my runs/ workouts have been very effective in getting me in the groove. I wake up in the morning……( feeling like myself, thankfully) and make myself a cup of warm saline water and I sip it while humming to myself. The next step is a little bit of stretching and a hot cup of black coffee ( no sugar please). The next step is the exercise. The previous two steps somehow prime my mind and I look forward to the next logical step, that is workout. I ain’t the only one succeeding at it too, others swear by simple things like readying your gym clothes the night before, alarms etc
  2. Breaking into a hum/song- This is easier than exercise and makes me get past whatever was irking me. Also, once you’v e sung along to your mindfully created playlists, you will find any bothersome memories/ experiences/people trivial.
  3. Reading your favorite genre- Again, a little difficult at first as the dark places in our heads can be like a maze, but if you push harder, you would be merrily drenching in the linguistic utopia of whodunits or whatever may be your poison

So, I guess thanks for coming to my TEDw Diary.
