
I have seasonal favorites. Since it’s summers, it’s officially mango season.
I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then repeat it the next day because you have that many varieties of mangoes.
Every variety comes with its distinct aroma.
You have Alphonso which is a global sensation, Langda from Benaras, Dasehri from Lucknow, Banganapalle or Safeda from Andhra Pradesh and Himsagar from West Bengal among others.
I think mangoes perfectly reflect India’s diversity & culture.
My favorite is Himsagar as that’s what I grew up on.
Elders of my family used to stock up on mangoes like it was gold. We would have boxes full of Himsagar, Malda & Dasehri in our pantry and would feast on them after all meals during summers.
So, while I do like and enjoy other fruits throughout the year, mangoes take the lead during summers!
