Has to be my Fitbit- a relic from the time I decided to get fit after putting on significant weight.
Its purchase marked a shift in how I looked at myself- possibly influenced by an episode on the subway involving a kind woman who offered me a seat after a cursory glance at my belly. Since the train was crowded and I was carrying a heavy laptop bag, I accepted her offer and chose not to scorn the implication.
The woman, to her embarrassment soon realized her mistake, quietly moved away -perhaps out of embarrassment, or as a gesture of respect. I still can’t say.
But I wasn’t angry at her and did have a good laugh about it but later in the evening did make the purchase.
Now, the device is nearing its extinction after Google’s decision to phase it out and replacing it with its own smart watches, but nothing fancier can take its place.
It taught me so much about myself- whether I sleep like a bear or a dolphin. What’s my heart rate variability, resting heart rate ( its better than Trump’s, thankfully), body temperature and my readiness among others. It contributes singnificantly to my day’s plan.
Its charger now works on a whim, but I am still holding on.
